Who Am I ?

Have you ever heard the sweet thrashing of 80s Metal guitar riffs and rhythmic funky beats of 70s club Disco music combined? No? Neither have I but my artwork is pretty close to that description, visually speaking of course. I’m Alonso Holguin, going by “Strutting Phoenix," an illustrator based in groovy Colorado. The use of precise digital modern comic concept worked to fusion with astonishing vibrant colors, creating fiery defining works not seen before in a modern medium. Defining my heritage from a lineage of an ascended Aztec empire lost to time but strong tradition influenced my work in concepts from its heroic mythology and mysterious history. Getting the opportunity to share my heritage with others bridges cultural similarities defining a shared familiarity. There is always an opportunity to capture humanity's  culture that can be woven into art not lost in definition or language. Work that feels metal and looks groovy present in a stylistic and defining manner for all to enjoy. Let me stand up and shout on the love train with a touch of evil. Let me show you my baby love, my life eternal, my art.

Started to get interested in high school in comics and the cinema, storytelling mediums that were easy to understand in any culture. The “Iron Man” film inspired me to pursue a degree in sequential art and experiencing that medium expand to a whole cinematic universe brings more recognition to a once undervalued medium of story. Going from Denver School of the Arts to Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design pushed what defines me whether its culture or heritage is illustrated in an art medium. Made work for Denver International Airport culture art exhibition for students, Museum of Contemporary Art Denver student art work and Scholastic Art Awards. I am working to publish my own graphic novels and looking out to join Marvel’s Young Guns team of artists.
